A Joyful LGBTQ+ Spring Wedding Bursting With Color at BRICK San Diego

January 3, 2026

Some love stories don’t begin with grand gestures; they start quietly, unexpectedly, and feel meaningful from the very first moment. For Jen and Meryl, that moment came in January 2022 at a bonfire, where two strangers happened to sit across from each other and slip into an effortless conversation. They talked about work, life, and all the small details that instantly felt familiar. When the night ended, they parted ways without saying goodbye — but both walked away wondering the same thing: What was that spark?

A week later, fate stepped in again. Jen invited a friend to Sunday Funday, that friend brought Meryl, and their connection resumed as if no time had passed. By the end of the night, Jen jokes she was “kidnapped” by Meryl for a spontaneous work trip to Palm Springs — an adventure that sealed what they already knew. Their early relationship wasn’t without challenges, but those experiences built the foundation of trust, communication, and deep partnership that would define their journey forward.

Finding the Perfect LGBTQ+ Wedding Venue in San Diego

When Jen proposed in April 2024, the search for a wedding venue began almost immediately. A friend recommended BRICK, and the moment Jen and Meryl stepped inside, they knew they had found the one.

With its open floor plan, exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings, and creative flexibility, BRICK felt warm, welcoming, and full of possibility. For a couple dreaming of a modern, expressive, and inclusive celebration, the space offered everything they were looking for in an LGBTQ+ friendly wedding venue — and more.

A Colorful Spring Wedding Vision Brought to Life by 828 Planning

Jen and Meryl’s design inspiration stemmed from past BRICK open house installations created by their planner, Lindsay McClure, of 828 Planning. They were drawn to a look that felt vibrant, modern, and unapologetically joyful; something that celebrated spring while still feeling elevated and intentional.

With just a few inspiration images, Lindsay transformed their vision into a cohesive design that filled the space with color, movement, and warmth. The result was a celebration that felt expressive, artistic, and deeply personal — a perfect reflection of the couple.

Layered Design, Thoughtful Details, and Spring Color Everywhere

Every element of the design worked in harmony to bring the space to life:

  • Tiffani Co Floral Design created lush, wild spring floral installations overflowing with texture, movement, and bold seasonal color.

  • Folklore’s monochromatic pastel chairs introduced a soft gradient effect that perfectly complemented the florals.

  • Cedar & Pine provided light wood tables and lounge pieces that added natural warmth and an airy elegance throughout the venue.

  • Catalog Atelier completed the tablescape with curated cutlery, glassware, plating, and napkins — elevating the pastel palette with refined, thoughtful detail.

The combination of modern rentals, organic textures, and playful color transformed BRICK into a joyful spring oasis while still letting the venue’s architectural character shine.

Personal Touches That Honored Their Story

What made Jen and Meryl’s wedding truly unforgettable were the deeply personal details woven throughout the day.

Their seating chart paid homage to one of their favorite activities and favorite movie, Love & Basketball, welcoming guests with a clever and charming “please be seeded” moment. Dessert followed the same heartfelt theme — custom basketball-themed cake pops made by a close friend paired with their favorite cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes, blending sentimentality with sweetness.

Honoring loved ones was especially important to the couple. A memorial table displayed framed photos of family members who had passed, ensuring their presence was felt throughout the celebration. Their pets were lovingly included as well — their cat Lani and their beloved dog Louie both held special places in the day. Louie had been planned to play a role in the ceremony but passed shortly before the wedding. To honor him, a cutout of Louie in his tiny wedding suit was placed in the space so he could still be part of their celebration; a moment that touched everyone in attendance.

A Celebration Filled With Joy, Comfort, and Ease

Guests enjoyed incredible food and desserts from Toast Catering, along with nostalgic cookies and ice cream that added a comforting, playful touch to the evening. As the night unfolded, BRICK’s signature mylar tape dance floor caught the light and set the tone for a fun, energetic reception — inviting guests to celebrate fully.

Through it all, Jen and Meryl remember the overwhelming sense of peace they felt.

“Everything was on time, in the right spot, and if there were any hiccups, we never knew about them,” they shared. “The most peaceful day.”

While they initially questioned whether they needed a planner, the experience quickly erased any doubt.

“Knowing what we know now, our wedding day wouldn’t have been as perfect without Lindsay. We showed her a few inspo pictures and she absolutely made it come to life and then some.”

With full trust in 828 Planning, Jen and Meryl were able to stay present; soaking in the color, the tributes, the laughter, and every emotional moment.
